Mirage Tour-Putt™ Turf
"Turf of the Millennium"

Mirage Putting Greens of Scottsdale, Arizona, announced its revolutionary synthetic turf system, called Tour-Putt™, at the 1999 PGA show in Las Vegas. This incredible "real-grass look-alike" turf was tagged by local Las Vegas television reporters as the "Turf of the Millennium".

While many leading golf companies showed an interest in the system, over 1,000 golf industry professionals putted on the new Mirage Tour-Putt™ green displayed in Las Vegas. Several executive members of the PGA of America stopped by the Mirage booth at the show to compliment the product.

Mirage specializes in the manufacturing and distribution of the Tour-Putt™ System. It distributes and the product through its dealer network, which consists of over 100 professionally-trained organizations throughout the United States and Canada.

The Mirage Turf System has been installed in backyards, hotels, casinos, RV parks, pro shops, schools, apartment complexes, office complexes, golf facilities, and even on the top of the New York Athletic Club building in Manhattan and on a golf course at the North Pole!

Revolutionary Fiber Simulates Real Bent-Grass Green!

What makes the new Mirage Tour-Putt System so unique is the revolutionary interlocking, spring-like, high-density, curled fiber design that naturally simulates a real bent-grass green. Supporting the turf is an outdoor waterproof rubber backing that gives the surface a real grass feel.

The proprietary, highly treated UV, multi-color design is the only one of its kind, allowing the putting surface to withstand intense sunlight, as well as the rigors associated with daily outdoor exposure.

Currently, most synthetic putting surfaces require the application of a deep sand fill into the fibers. These surfaces require sand in order to support the low density of the fibers. Once sand filled, the product is coated with a colored top dressing to create a more natural look. The fibers that stick out of the top of the sand are rolled to create the bent-grass effect.

Eventually the fibers of these sand-filled greens lose their integrity, burying themselves in the sand. Once this happens, the ball actually rolls across what is predominantly sand. The sand can become uneven over time, which can cause the ball to skip or hop. The sand will also stick to the bottom of shoes, which can be tracked onto patios, as well as indoors.

The maintenance for these deep sand-filled greens is much more extensive than non-sand-filled greens, as they require periodic re-sanding, re-top dressing, rolling and sweeping.

The creation of the Mirage Tour-Putt
surface was to correct the problems associated with sand-filled greens, and to provide a synthetic putting surface that is literally ready to putt on "right off the shelf". Since the putting fibers of the Mirage Tour-Putt surface are very dense, they do not require the addition of sand to support them.

Without deep layers of sand filled to the top of the fibers, the ball has a truer roll, and the green will accept a chip shot much more realistically. On a Mirage Tour-Putt surface, the turf fibers actually grab the ball, allowing it to check up correctly. On the other hand, the ball will have the tendency to skip across a deep sand-filled green.

The Mirage Tour-Putt
material comes pre-bent from the factory and does not require rolling. The multi-colored design (light green and dark green fibers) has been created so that it simulates live grass, dead grass, and dirt aggregates characteristics of natural grass putting greens. The use of these natural colors eliminates the need to apply a colored top dressing.

Green Speeds Measured

Putting green speeds are measured by a device called a Stimp meter. A ball is rolled off the Stimp meter onto the green in 8 different directions. The distance the ball rolls is averaged to determine the reading.

Professional tour greens have a Stimp reading somewhere between 9 and 12; most municipal courses measure somewhere between 7 and 10.

Our Tour-Putt turf has a Stimp reading somewhere between 9 (no sand fill) and 12 (lightly sand assisted). Since most of the better municipal courses have a reading within this range, the Mirage Tour-Putt System owner is able to improve his/her game by practicing under conditions similar to the courses they are used to playing.

Mirage Putting Greens has several different models (designs) of turf to simulate different ball speeds and reactions.
